I can't sleep

I've had a strange couple of weeks. I went to a doctor coz I thought I had gastric but who has gastric for 5 or 6 days straight? I've never had such a thing.

She gave me a 3 day course which I finished but I still had cramps which sometimes made me double over at certain points in the day. I've never experienced ANYTHING like this and I've been eating well so I was really quite disturbed.

I went to a stomach specialist yesterday and he has diagnosed me with appendicitis. I was taken aback. I didn't see it coming and I'm going to be hospitalised in the morning for surgery. It took a while for all this to sink in when the doctor said I need an operation.

Whoa, slow down. I asked the doctor "But why am I not on the floor crawling around? This has been with me for 2 weeks! I'm in pain and 24/7 discomfort, yes but not agony"

Turns out, I don't have the usual kind of appendicitis called "acute". Or I wouldn't be writing to you now ;) This is chronic appendicitis which is quite rare and the pain is prolonged over a period of time. It is more dangerous than the normal "acute" kind coz it's hard to detect it. I mean, I've been functioning for 2 weeks. Even did a magazine shoot yesterday. So the problem with chronic appendicitis is people think they have gastric but they don't and it can go on and on for ages but if the appendix ruptures, shudder, it can even be fatal.

So I can't take that risk. Surgery it is *groan* Please wish me luck. I can't wait for this to be over.

Well, that's why I can't sleep. Can't eat or drink water either before the op. So I thought I'd blog.

If we have a soul, I wonder where "it" goes under general anasthesia? Well, if I have any ideas tomorrow and I'm not too drugged out after my operation, I'll def let you know, nightey :)

i had my acute tonsillitis surgery sometime in march 2007, i survived it and so will you! my soul came to my face first thing when i woke up from the general anesthesia, all excited. my head was extremely heavy and i felt numb, i couldn't thing straight and my soul was jumping around saying "look! look! isn't it amazing! you have tubes poked into your skin!" if you have a naughty soul like i do, i think it'll do the same thing. roaming around in the operation theater in, bedazzled by the tech. :) good luck!

really?? it's appendicitis?? it's quite disturbing to me because i sometimes have gastric for a week for no reason at all. and i usually attribute it to stress and lack of sleep. but after reading ur post, it makes me think twice! because i never visit doctors if i have gastric for a week. i would just stay at home and sleep but sometimes the pain is so.. i'm in agony till i feel like i'm going to die from this pain.

oh well i will visit the doctor if i have gastric the next time. i want to live long!

get well soon!

i had mine removed back in 1998. still remember had a terrible stomach ache one night but i thought it was just a normal stomach pain. went to see a GP he said it might be food poisoning (yeah rightt..food poisoining konon). it was so painful until i javascript:void(0)got tired of rolling all over on my bed until i felt asleep. the pain didnt go away after i woke up hours later. went to see the specialist that night (i think it was morning by then) n was diagnosed with appendicitis.

later i really understand when my science teacher said the pain of appendicitis is just ranked second after the pain of a lady delivering a baby..oh boyy..

u'll be fine jo2. do update us later on your operation.

Renaye, there's nothing normal about having gastric for a week. I seriously think you shd check yourself out.

Chronic appendicitis is confused with gastric or even stress and it's very dangerous coz if you leave it untreated or you don't know about it, it can rupture. If it does, it can be fatal.

You might've just had gastric but don't take the risk. If you have gastric next time, get a course of gastric medicine right away. If u don't respond to it, then it's something else. Could be what I had. Pls take care, Jojo
