Have you ever had deja-vu?

Several years ago, I used to remember doing sit ups in my bedroom while watching MTV music videos. At the time, there was a VJ called Sonia Couling on the channel. I used to see her everywhere in Singapore, on magazine covers, bus stops, TV commercials, the works.

One night, I had a dream about her. I remember waking up feeling confused because she was definitely someone close to me in the dream. She was telling me about her boyfriend, hanging out with me at different locations. It felt so real! But she was a total stranger in real life.

I told one of my guy friends "hey, it's strange you know. I dreamt of that MTV VJ girl Sonia...I felt like I KNEW her" and he cut me off "Nothing strange about that. Lots of guys have dreamt about her. She's hot what" he reasoned.
"Give me a break. I'm not a guy. I wasn't dreaming about her like that (eyes rolling). We were hanging out, you know...like friends. It felt da*n real"

"Look whatever it is, you better introduce me if your dream comes true okay?" ;)

As it turns out, I got confirmed for a fashion show for a Japanese brand (this was unusual for me coz I'm really too short to catwalk ;) and Sonia Couling was also doing this show so I met her backstage when we were getting our make up done. We didn't have much time to chat so I figured the dream had no substance to it.

After that job, I ran into her here and there but we didn't have each other's numbers. It was not like the dream where we were almost inseparable.

A few years passed and I ended up forgetting the dream altogether but when I was modelling in Bangkok, Sonia and I REALLY connected. We just clicked and we saw each other almost every day. I didn't know many people in Thailand and she made me feel right at home.

Sonia and me training together at the gym

She was also getting fit for an action movie and her trainer taught me a couple of moves. It was just a short sequence but crazy tiring. I have a new found appreciation for fight scenes in movies lol ;)

One night, we were having dinner together in an outdoor restaurant and I was taking in the stones on the ground, the mood lit tables and my hair kinda stood up. It was like deja vu. I had been there before yet I hadn't. The scene felt sooo familiar.

Then, I remembered the dream (the one I had BEFORE I even met her). It was exactly like this. So bizarre. In my dream, we were friends hanging out everywhere and this was one of the scenes in my dream!

I hardly have dreams that actually happen but this was one of them. The total stranger I dreamt of who became my friend in real life! :)

I find dreams fascinating. Sometimes, they can inspire creativity which is why you should write them down when you wake up. Sometimes, they're fantasy or literal but the scary ones make you appreciate that "it was just a dream" phew ;) People who dream they're being chased or happen to be falling from the sky often wake up feeling sooo thankful they're alive. Even if they have no meaning for you, they can be quite entertaining :)

And in real life, never stop a person from thinking big or dreaming. It's important to have dreams. Most of the people who really make it big believed in their own dreams and never let others tell them otherwise.

Do you know Michael Jordan was told that he would never make the school basketball team and he proved through sheer hard work that he could make it. In fact, his coach was the very impetus to make him work so hard (even doing chin ups to grow taller!) He proved his first coach wrong by being one of the greatest basketball players there ever were.

Not that I'm a fan of Mariah but she was told by her teacher to not waste her time dreaming about becoming a singer coz there was no money in it ;)

Make sure you have dreams in life because if you can visualize something (like how Tiger pictures the perfect shot), you can start making it happen. It's important to visualize whatever goals you have.

so dream on :) just never stop dreaming....

SERIOUSLY, I once had a dream about u..(not 'that' kind of dreams *eyes rolling*):P

In that dream, I was writing a letter (to you), telling that how much I wanted to write a letter for you. (yes, a letter that talks about a wish to write a letter). I sent it (don't ask me the address, because I don't know) and u replied (in a letter), 'thank you'.

Now years later, I'm writing something to you, in your blog. Does that count? Can that be a part of deja-vu, too?:)

Like wow, that's totally interesting
Its like having glimpses of the future, only , yours is in dreams..

The dream that i remember most is that of my grandmum turning into a half -snail and chasing me :P

It would be the end of the world if it did come true, hehehe

not just once but a few times.... nothing really special though... just that sometimes when i am experiencing some moment, i have a feeling i have experienced the same thing before! haha

Oh well, i seldom dreams when i sleep...so whenever i dream something nice, i do hope it happen in the future xD

Dreams, thoughts and the coarser physical actions are the products of our mind. We have heard so many times that the mind is very powerful, just that we do not know how to fully utilise it. True!

Why do some people dream and some don't? Can it be just a hallucination? There can also be a sets of conditions that can give rise to such a mental state. Food, emotions, movies are also possible contributors.

It is fine to have dreams and the like but one should not be attached or obsessed with it. The scenarios in the dream may come true in real life or not is as good as anyone's guess. The important thing is to live mindfully, here and now!

You know I've always been a fan of yours eversince I watched you join the cast of Kopitiam the sitcom of my growing up years (: This was a good read and yes, sometimes dreams can come true all it (really) takes is just time.

And of course, faith because faith makes all things work.

Seriously... it was so very inspiring.. =)

yeah it's an inspiring message about dreams, courage, faith, (entertainment too!)... and not so much about what dreams mean or what they are about.

well "THANK YOU" Igniz lol n I dunno, you decide if it's deja vu.

Jojo Struys said...

Yeah I did Tsu Lin, and the guy was tongue tied when he met her hehe!

Ang, what a deep, philosophical explanation...

Thx everyone for your comments!

Appreciate it :)

Thanks for coming by and RYC: I think it's more that I find myself stuck in the same situations. It's like, my days are literally rewind/repeat. But I dunno. I guess everyone - in some way or other - are caught in (their own) ruts and hopefully I'll find my own way out eventually.

Thank you for leaving your 2 cents though. Appreciate it!

Kenny, thanks for making me feel gooood about blogging! It's not always easy considering the uploading of photos etc that goes with it. It's pretty time consuming. Honestly, I don't know HOW I find the time but I MAKE the time (n having a berry when I'm on the go or stuck in a make up chair really helps! :)

hey Kau Sern, you mean you dreamt of this when u had already joined the work force? ;)

when I was 5 I used to dream to be a transformer robot, when I was 15 I still wanted to be a transformer robot. Now that I am 20, things has gotten clearer and I can think in more details. Now, all I want to be is the transformer robot that can also change to an aeroplane.

have u watch the matrix part 1 where neo sees a cat in a building twice.it happen when the MACHINE change the system.when dejavu happen its our destiny being change.well actually the 'possibilities' added.how is that?for every second of our life represent a string of probability in parallel universe.each string have beginning & ending.how long or short what colour what thickness depend on u.u want to live longer go for yoga or kuntao.take up smoking & extreme sport expect a very short string.when dejavu happen all our string are cut and realigned.that what happen to you.your string in other parallel universe already cross & connected with Sonia Couling but u can feel the rippling in this world(in ur dream).eventually both string attached met & happily ever after.the end.barf.

Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles?

I mean, what you say is important and everything. However think of if
you added some great visuals or video clips to give your posts more,
"pop"! Your content is excellent but with pics and clips, this site could definitely
be one of the most beneficial in its niche. Good blog!

Undeniably believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason appeared to be on the
web the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get irked while people
consider worries that they plainly don't know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks
